| | | John McDonald, Ph.D., P.Geo. Position: Director
Dr. McDonald was the V.P. Exploration for both Diamondex and Winspear Diamonds Inc., designing and developing their exploration focus. He and his technical team were directly responsible for the discovery and development of the Snap Lake diamond deposit, acquired by De Beers for C$308 million in 2000. His field success is complemented by a prestigious academic career including a 13-year tenure as a university professor in Saskatchewan, Canada and Canberra, Australia. Prior to Dr. McDonald joining the Winspear team, he was the Chief Geologist and Exploration Manager, Western Canada, for Esso Minerals Canada for a period of ten years.
His peers have recognized him for his contribution to the industry and for the 18 months he served as Interim Director for the Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) at the University of British Columbia. In 2000 Dr. McDonald received the HH "Spud" Huestis award for excellence in prospecting and mineral exploration from the B.C. and Yukon Chamber of Mines.
